I've been living in Calgary past 10 years and as of last year they got really bad my daughter was playing in the back yard and one came out after her and she ran into the house, then a few days later the dog was outside peeing and one came out after him had him backed right into wall of the house outside sprayed him it was in his eyes it took 7 cans of tomato sauce to get the smell out of his fur. my daughter was lucky!!! I'm not staying to hurt them in any way but to relocate them out of the city would be lovely. a little tip tho. don't keep any food laying around your yard at all nothing and they love bird seed as well!!!!!

Woodlands here. We can't ever open the windows in teh summer becasue the whole area stinks just when the animal walks by. Our dogs ahve been sprayed twice now. The smell in the house was so bad that some of us actually had a burning sensation in the back of our throats when we woke up in the morning. We looked into having them removed as well and got the same answer :(

The city should be offering this as a service and the pest removal people are taking advantage of people by charging such an outrageous fee.

Copperfield here. I'd just like some assistance without having to pay so much to just trap and relocate the poor guys. Maybe rent out equipment for free with a deposit? I dunno...

Had one den in Cranston, couldn't leave the windows open in the evening, because the smell of them just walking by stunk up the whole house. Problem in Oakridge, at my daughter's place, and also in Martindale, at my other daughter's place. Problem is that they haven't any natural enemies in town other than humans, too keep their numbers down!

How in the hell is it a health hazard? Go visit a library, they aren't harming anyone, it is people like you harming the environment killing an innocent animal because you're a completely uneducated selfish POS. People in this city have been living with skunks for years, no problem unless you make it one. You're a cry baby, boo hoo I'm scared of a little animal, must kill it. Go live in an apartment if you don't like the natural wildlife in the city. Wow, they come to your step, big deal, they come there because normal people put scraps out for them, they are only out because of the warm weather looking for a snack. Instead of being a dbag, why don't you give them an egg to eat, and they will take it back to their den. They will reward you by eating the mice in your yard. Are you telling me when you open your door they don't walk away when you walk out? Got nothing better to complain about or do. Why don't you volunteer somewhere if you have so much time on your hands.

So train your stupid dogs, skunks aren't harming anyone and in fact they help keep the rodent population down. They are mostly nocturnal anyways, how often are you going to see them? You are seeing more of them this year due to the warm weather, usually they would be sleeping right now. People like you make me sick, what are you going to do put in a noise complaint when the birds sing? Kill the squirrels that come to visit the yard? My tax money isn't going to be used to kill an innocent animal due to your crazy, unwarranted hysteria.

we live in Douglasdale and the problem has been getting worse the last couple of years. If firefighters can come and save cats/dogs/squirrels etc, why can't someone come and get rid of the skunks that are a danger?

This should not be at the cost of the individual as these wild animals are wondering around on city property; the city should foot the bill. As others have mentioned, this problem could get out of hand quickly with mating skunks. These animals should be captured and relocated by fish and wildlife or other experienced professionals.

I don't have a skunk problem where I live now, but when I lived in Huntington Hills there were a few skunks. It was awful, I was scared to take out my garbage because of them. The city need to step up, it's not like we have an abundance of cats that we let's out ourselves.

I agree, the skunks in Taradale are an issue. They are aggressive chasing or standing up & "hissing". While I understand they are part of life, with the abundance of sightings I wonder how long before a small child or animal is bitten - and what diseases may be transferred!

This is definitely a problem that is increasing expedentially and will only get worse. They are not harmless, and are a risk to the public. The city bylaw should be taking care of this , not making residents do the work.

We have been in the Temple area for 23 years and never had seen a skunk till last year. We had to relocate 4 from our yard. Luckily without incident. The city should be offering this as a service and the pest removal people are taking advantage of people by charging such an outrageous fee.

we have skunks in Queensland too, saw one at my front porch last night when I came home from work. We had them over the summer as well, but we can't afford $200 per skunk removal, that's a ridiculous fee when you think about it. How is the City being of service to us?
