This is one of the reasons we started this petition! One of our friends lives in Terrace View and has a 10 minute walk to get to his recycling bin. We are hoping that having more recycling containers will make it easier for everyone in Blacksburg as well as be much more efficient! And it may be a hassle, but Mother Earth greatly appreciates your effort :)- Katie and Lea

We totally agree! As we were researching about recycling, we came across the fact that recycling one aluminum can can save enough energy to listen to a full album on your iPod or watch TV for 2 hours? Crazy, right? - Katie and Lea

We think that a great follow up to this petition would be educating people about what can and cannot be recycled. Blacksburg recently changed their recycling, making it ‘single stream’. This means that all recycling can be put in one container and when they are brought to the facility, they are separated. This ‘single stream’ method is one step closer to making recycling easier and more convenient for Blacksburg citizens. - Katie and Lea

We hope that implementing this change and making it easier to recycle will encourage people to learn more about what and where to recycle! The goal of this petition is to change the ordinance of Blacksburg regarding recycling, and hopefully that will close the existing loopholes in the recycling rules. -Katie and Lea

One of the reasons we began this initiative is increase the amount of recycling receptacles. We want this change to both increase the availability of recycling containers and encourage more people to recycle! - Katie and Lea

Both of us live other parts of Virginia, and when we moved off campus in Blacksburg we were surprised to see the minimal recycling available. Hopefully this petition will help encourage Blacksburg and other towns to catch up on their recycling standards. - Katie and Lea
