There is a need for Simon's Law nationwide. In many hospitals across America it is legal for a child to be denied life-sustaining care and for a 'do not resuscitate' order (DNR) to be placed on a child's medical chart without parental knowledge or consent.
Do you want a third party determining the value of your child? Should it be legal to withhold procedures, medications, food or water to hasten the death of a child without written parental consent? Should it be legal to place a 'do not resuscitate' order (DNR) in a child's medical chart without written parental consent?
If you want to protect your parental decision making rights, sign this petition. Please include the state you live in when you leave a comment (even if you don't leave your name). This will be beneficial in letting us know which areas of the US are being reached.

My niece has trisomy 18. My sister has to fight for the hospital to treat her and not let her die. Unfortunately the hospital wouldn’t. The good news is she was transferred to a hospital willing to care for her. She is doing amazing. She is alive at 5 months old.
Life-sustaining care and a 'do not resuscitate' order is a decision to be made by parents of the child, no one else. How terrible that a petition such as Simon's Law is necessary is the United States. This grieves my heart.
No doctor should be able to take away my parental rights to make a decision to protect the life of my children. The Hippocratic oath prevents their ability to do such things. Doctors are to 1st do no harm! You've got my support in Illinois!
No one but the POA or guardians should have the power to place a DNR or deny life-sustaining care. You don't get to pass judgement and deem someone not worthy of care just because of a diagnosis. That right is for the family to decide.
My daughter had Trisomy 18. The first doctors/hospital I was treated under were not very encouraging. The second doctor and hospital did everything they could to give our daughter a chance at life, that's all we wanted, was for her to have a chance.
A beautiful baby girl named Lyndsey, born with Trisomy 18 and abandoned by her parents at birth, changed my life! She was adopted by an amazing couple, who after raising their own birth children, had adopted 4 children with special needs, Lyndsey was #5. I was blessed to care for her overnight so that parents could get some sleep. She lived for 3 and a half years, loved to float in the jacuzzi, play Patty cake, and watch me make raspberries. Because of the generous hearts of this family, her Maternal grandparents were welcomed into her life with them and she loved their visits! I chose to become an Occupational Therapist after seeing their work with her during my care. ALL Life Matters!!!
I live in Indiana. I will be searching for what our laws do and don’t allow.

This is so important, especially when all doctors tell you is to terminate and your child is “not compatible with life.” It is not their call to make. It’s a parents right to advocate for their child, who cannot speak for themselves and deserve a chance at life, love and happiness.
