People are part of nature and providing access adds value to these areas. With some limited water run-off maintenance and sharing the kaitiakitanga, e.g. working bees, people's presence may actual enhance the native species, biodiversity etc.
There should certainly be a no dog policy and getting users involved with trapping invasive species could be a win-win.

Please do not restrict my access to the Silverpeaks. We are so lucky in Dunedin to have such easy access to the wide open spaces.

I've run around these parts for years, enjoying the interconnected nature of the many trails Dunedin has. Having to get a permit to run in certain areas would not only lead to confusion as to where people could run, but also kill the joy for runners being able to run whatever set of trails they picks that day. I've taken part in the 3 Peaks race 3 times myself and from those experiences see an know that that amazing race is important to me and the community. Dunedin has many awesome outside trails and activities and closing many of them off would remove this special thing that Dunedin has.

Why is a permit required anyway.? What argument does the Council have to be involved with this? Is it just another wrought where iwi are demanding money. Like the waitakere s etc.
