These proposed closures are lazy policy-making. Whether by total bans or restrictions, responsible community users are shut out. It treats public access as an inconvenience rather than something worth protecting, and strongly suggests the rule writers do not appreciate the real loss these areas would represent to the people who use them.

As outdoor educators we use these tracks regularly with educational groups. They are ideal for teaching navigation skills and accessible to the scout camp. Restricting access to these trails would be a great loss! On a personal level being able to pop into the silver peaks on an extended run (without planning /applying for a permit) feeds my soul! Restricting trails takes the impulsivity of adventure away!! No to restrictions on our ngāhere!

Access needs to remain as is. More education would be good. I do not see access to the area as harmful at the moment. You want people out active & engaged.

My family use the racemans, powder ridge and chalkies tracks almost every other weekend. Our kids aged 2-7 would be devastated if this was no longer an option!

Walking and hike trails are important for physical activity and for the health benefits of access to nature. Often walks are weather dependent and needing a permit requires further planning and will make such activities less accessible for the wider community and decrease healthy activity options for people. The wider Dunedin area is known for its access to wildlife and nature. People visit and live here for this. A permit will change this and there are no clear reasons why a permit is needed or what it would provide.

The trails are a popular and important destination, providing access for individuals, community groups and visitors to the area. I urge the Dunedin City Council to keep the trails open and accessible for all.

Were any Dunedin walking groups notified by council?? This seems to be a solution looking for a problem. are they going to cull the cattle & pigs?

This is an absolute disgrace. I bet the council have absolute no idea how many people run/walk these tracks. Please also inform us of the damage that is done by humans. Pigs, deer etc would account for 99.9%. It's ok to spend millions on cycle tracks used by a few who have access on the flat areas of Dunedin.
