Keep our Silverstream trails accessible

These trails are a valued and important part of our local outdoor environment, offering unique access to altitude terrain that is highly dependent on weather conditions. Due to the unpredictable and often changeable nature of the weather in this area, it is not always possible to plan visits in advance. Requiring a permit to access these trails would significantly reduce the ability for people to safely and responsibly enjoy them when suitable conditions arise. On clear, calm days—often at short notice—access needs to remain straightforward, otherwise these opportunities will be lost.

In spite of comments released by the OTD signing this petition is a protective factor against any proposition to restrict access.

As a former Dunedin resident, now regular visitor and life long trail runner, unfettered access is absolutely imperative to maintain the quality of life and user safety for all in the back country. There is no justification for this detrimental change. Please retain trail access without restrictions for foot traffic.

As a keen runner, the Swampy Ridge track is one of the best in the region, and I wouldn’t want any runner to miss out on running it due to red tape like this.

I am an extensive user of Dunedin's track network, which includes the Silverstream catchment. It is part of what I hope will become an unofficial multiday "Great Walk" around Dunedin's catchments and hills from the Peninsula around to the Silverstream, and has great potential for increased use by residents and visitors alike. This is a disappointing step backwards in terms of public use of already existing facilities, and is a frankly bizzare proposal.

Complete overkill to fix a problem which doesn't exist. Disappointed in the lack of information around this proposal. Very poor performance by the persons behind this.

Access for walkers needs to remain open. Wild animals in the area cause more damage to water catchment than the odd walkers. Keep our access open

These tracks are a staple to the community and deserve to remain open for all

This area should be accessible without a permit.
