We often go running and walking in this area. Dunedin is fortunate to have this amazing area so close to town, which supports the real outdoor lifestyle that many people who choose to live in this city love.

Kiwis all over the country rely on open access for recreation, mental wellbeing, maintaining and improving physical fitness. If access is restricted the negative effects will unnecessarily be felt by a whole community. This could also sway a huge demographic of voters with the upcoming by-election.

why require permits for, or otherwise restrict, access to these beautiful trails?

there's no justification for closing well-used tracks in a well-respected area.

Keep these trails open and accessible to all. We are so lucky to have wilderness areas so close to the CBD.

Need to retain uninhibited recreational access to this land for a range of activities to maintain Dunedin’s attractiveness as an outdoorsy city

These areas have been part of the Silverstream Water Catchment since the beginning of identification of water needs and requirements for Dunedin and Mosgeil. Why change now.? These tracks have been part of the SIlverstream catchment. Nothing needs to change.

These trails are some of Dunedin’s greatest assets, and are part of what makes me feel so strongly linked to the area. Very upset that they may become inaccessible to those who love them.

Please don't close more of our country down. WE already havesuch limited spaces close to large communities. The health benefits of being able to get completely beyond a city stucture needs to remain a human right and need.

These trails are one of the reasons we continue to visit Dunedin, so many day walks to enjoy. Also, Walks in nature are extremely important for the physical and mental health of residents

I grew up running and hiking in these trails. I completed my Honours and Masters degree researching this area. I can't express how important these recreation opportunities are for the whole community. This is an opportunity for people to experience urban proximate wilderness on our doorstep. An important part of connection with nature. Restricting access will continue to erode the values of the area and disconnect us further from the natural environment.

These tracks are an irreplaceable part of what makes Dunedin a great place to live. Requiring permits for everyday walking and running is a disproportionate response with no clear evidence of harm from recreational users. Please reconsider — keep these trails open and accessible to all.

One of the things I love about Dunedin is being able to head out into the hills on the spur of the moment. We should be encouraging physical activity and not putting up barriers.

Walkers/runners leave minimal impact on the surrounding environment. These trails are a significant attraction for Dunedin locals and visitors alike who enjoy the outdoors. The three peaks trail race attracts hundreds of athletes to the area each year, boosting the local economy and strengthening the community. Closing off these trails to walkers and runners would be hugely disappointing for everyone who enjoy the outdoors and visit these trails on a regular basis. I urge the council to consider alternative measures so that people can continue to enjoy the beauty of the SilverPeaks.

Why would access be restricted?!
This is such an incredible recreational resource
