Keep our Silverstream trails accessible

Councils should be committed to increasing the accessibilty to public land not reducing it. This area is obviously important to the community as a recreational space.

The current public access isn't causing any problem, so why is the DCC taking this action?

This area is an important recreational resource. A better move would be for the Council to manage it as a Regional Park, in conjuction with DOC'S neighboring reserve and the OTMC's Ben Rudy's property.

DCC - deceitful sneaky people who turned a blind eye to unlawful camping and gold mining on the water reserve (vehicle DNN115) and stated that it 'didnt worry them' then when a friend took out a claim with the promise to use a detector only DCC suddenly turned. I am DCC water reserve neighbour and anyone who wishes to access beyond DCC can approach me and l will give them access via my property. This new rule can only be to DCC s detriment. It is pointless.

What kind of thinking is this. Do the DCC really want to be inundated with thousands of permits? The proposal is total idiocy.

This is a ridiculous bylaw which will stop people from engaging with our whenua and getting out into nature

Keep our trails open!

I take school groups into the Silverstream area most years, and over time many of Dunedin students have had their first experience of tramping on these trails. For many young people, especially those without easy access to outdoor spaces, these trips are a gateway to building confidence, resilience, and a lifelong connection to the outdoors. Introducing permits or removing unrestricted public access risks creating unnecessary barriers for schools and young people. In practice, even small administrative hurdles can mean fewer trips go ahead. I strongly encourage Dunedin City Council to ensure these trails remain accessible for unrestricted public use and to recognise their importance in supporting youth wellbeing and outdoor learning.

It would be a crying shame to lose running and walking access to this important part of our whenua. The requirement of a permit to use the great outdoors is a poor move DCC/ORC.

Please keep the trails open! Trail running has physical and mental health benefits and access needs to be protected.

Excluding running and daywalking from areas that tramping and hunting are allowed on is arbitrary. Furthermore, if a reason to close tracks can't be clearly identified and communicated, they should be kept open.

I totally disagree with making any part of the silver peaks inaccessible to the general public for any recreational activity.

These paths are an extremely valuable resource for trail running and day walking

Frequently use this area for recreational tramping and running, one of Dunedin’s gems and a draw to live here
