The access restrictions in the council’s proposed water bylaw affecting Powder Creek, Powder Ridge, Long Ridge, Pulpit Rock, Green Ridge, Green Gauge, Hightop and Swampy Ridge, along with limitations on users of such popular routes as Swampy Ridge Track, Steve Amies Track, Racemans Track, and Little Coal Creek Track, would drastically reduce recreational options for Dunedin residents and threaten the future of the nationally significant 3 Peaks Mountain Race. The bylaw should not be passed in its present form.

I love these tracks and being able to access them at a whim, rather than needing a permit. Can’t see that walking is an issue to the water catchments anyway

I’ve walked this track many times it’ll be a shame if they stop letting people enjoy this beautiful track

Live near these trails and use them all the time for running . I also go walking with kids and dogs and always see lots of families and runners. Love three peaks race and can’t imagine these areas being no longer accessible. Clearly council doesn’t value trail running and walking if they are considering this!

Free and simple access should be kept in place. Getting a permit to enter is very limiting as you will not be able to change your date of use. You would need to apply again.

For a city with health issues, closing off easily accessible tracks for spur of the moment exploration, especially with kids, doesn’t seem to be a great idea. If hunting and tramping are permissible surely walks can be too?

Running has lower environmental impact than any of the aforementioned activities. Suggest it has been a mere drafting oversight that should be rectified.

Let us run wild! Access permits costs rate payer money to enforce. We do not acede to that
