I spent many of my younger years traversing all the tracks in the Silverpeaks, and Whare Flat areas, training search and rescue dogs in those areas, and deploying my dogs in real search events in said areas. I do not agree to these areas being withdrawn from public access, without due process and adequate explanation.

Dunedin has many unique features that make it a special and spectacular destination. One such geographical feature is that you can walk from the city centre and be in the mountains (Silver Peaks) within hours. All that the Silver Peaks area encompasses are trails and bush and open tops that all ages can experience. I used to take Intermediate aged children tramping there because it was and is so accessible. It needs to stay this way. Connecting children, youth, visitors and adults to nature, challenge’s and the wealth of diverse trails is important for physical, mental and even financial health of those that live and visit Otepoti/ Dunedin.

Ridiculous that DCC did not advertise and seek proper consultation on this. 18 submissions is absolute BS! How can they be closing queens drive to promote more active living on one hand and then be restricting access to the most amazing trail network on the other? So stupid! Please please do not let this happen. The silver peaks are my happy place!!!!

It was fun to run these tracks, I am not sure why a restriction has been emplaced but I would urge reconsideration given that this event gets a lot of people outside and off their buts

Don't ban or restrict access! I'm a trail runner and a day walker, but I'm also a tramper and a hunter. There's no difference between them! I love being outdoors!
