I have spent many hours running and exploring the sliverpeaks, often on a whim. As someone with ADHD requiring a permit or permission would effectively mean I either didn't go running or entered illegally as I don't know when I want to go running and filling out forms is hard. The idea that we have to asks to acess public land is ludicrous.

I have tramped, run and biked in this area for 50 years and introduced my children and grand-children to the beauty of the Silver Peaks. At a time of climate crisis, public access to this area for recreation should not be hindered by the need to get a permit. DCC has not produced any evidence of risk to the water supply from recreational use of the area in the past and not explained what the proposed permit requirement is intended to achieve.

The Siverstream trails and the Silverpeaks in general are an amazing and very unique asset for Dunedin. Visitors and locals alike are super impressed with this easily accessible hinterland with a wide variety of terrain. We must keep it accessible.
