To Residents of Miami Shores, FL:

  • Are you tired of the thunderous sound of the rail train’s horn in the morning, during the day, and throughout the night?
  • Does your business or place of employment suffer because of the loud and unexpected noise that occurs during the work day?
  • Are your children affected at school or at home with the incessant blasts of the rail train’s horn?
  • Are you tired of your property value being depreciated by the proximity to the railroad tracks?
  • Do you want to re-establish Chatham as a charming Village without the daily intrusion of piercing noise?

Let’s join together to stop the noise in our homes and in our neighborhood. The sounding of the horns are increasingly louder and more frequent. Let's seek to establish an official “Quiet Zone!”

What are the benefits of establishing a “Quiet Zone” in Miami Shores, FL?

  • enhanced quality of life
  • a reduction in health impacts of the train horn.
  • improvement of the value of a community and property values.
  • safer crossings due to required upgrades.
  • increased productivity at businesses and homes.
  • enriched effectiveness of our children’s educational experience.
  • creation of a peaceful environment.
  • improved attractiveness of our Village.

I live close to the crossings of 79th and 82nd streets where each train blows its horn 8 times (4 for each street). At certain times, two, three or even four trains pass with little time apart. One time I counted 24 horn blows almost non-stop. This is inhumane. Our quality of life and our health is being seriously affected. We must have a quiet zone.

Even if the decibels can be lowered in combination with flashing lights, it would already be better. My daughter wakes up crying at night due to the noise. She is 6 years old.

The Trains are awful at this point. It is so much different then before. The trains are constant and blow the horns so often it seems as though they want to bother people. I never complain and have never signed a petition (I am 48) but, this needs a solution!! I live just west of 2nd ave and the trains are not close to me but, this is a non-stop barrage of deafening noise.

What happened to only hitting the horn once when crossing an intersection? Now the conductors are blowing on the horn at leas 7 times every time they pass by and they pass by a lot! We can't sleep!
