In school sign language is not given to us as an option. There are many deaf people around the world that we are unable to communicate with because we don’t know how to. Teaching people sign language at a younger age can help solve this communication issue. I am hoping that this will make it easer for normal people to communicate with people who are hard of hearing.
I was just thinking about how ridiculous it is that we learn all these random facts in class but skip a whole language that could actually help us talk to people right here in our own community. It feels like such a huge gap in our education and honestly I have been reading through the comments and seeing so many of you saying the same thing which makes me feel like maybe we can actually push for a change here.

I was just staring at the screen and realized how much this has exploded since I started typing this up at my kitchen table during a total lull in my productivity. It is honestly bizarre and wonderful that so many people feel this same tug to make classrooms more open spaces even though I definitely didn't think this would move beyond my own inner circle.

My cousin is deaf and it is so hard for him at school sometimes. Everyone should be able to talk to him.

Learning other languages is part of school so why not asl? seems like a basic skill we are missing out on.
