We must find a better way to fix the problems of our children in the school system. Suspension is not always the answer.

Children are our future. Having a second look at a shortterm suspension which will impact a child's future long-term only makes sense. Parental rights are necessary.

Enactment of this policy is a step in the right direction to deal with the disgraceful state we find ourselves in due to mass incarceration, substantially resulting from the "School to Prison Pipeline" to which current policies of short-term suspension is a contributing factor.

I believe students and their parents should be allowed to appeal short-term suspensions.

And the victims? They are also children of color. Who advocates for them? Who recovers their lost classroom time which sets them back even further? For every one that disrupts a classroom, assaults another student, etc, there are 30 others in that classroom that need that teacher instruction. Yes, there is a disparity. There are many more victims that lose valuable instruction time because of one or two left in the classroom. If you want alternative classroom settings to help the disruptive kids, fine. But the time is well past that we refuse to accept that the victims look just like the offenders. And the victims vastly outnumber the offenders. This isn't about one group, one gender....this is about being able to provide every opportunity for all students to learn without being threatened, assaulted or worse. This policy will be devastating to our children and their safety
