I'm ashamed to live in Houston when I look at how animals are treated here. It's imperative that action is taken in this situation. To me, it seems Houston takes no better card of their animals than a third world country.

We must see a change in the laws, and enforcement of those laws, before any real progress can be made regarding the astronomical animal overpopulation, dumping, torture, & abuse problem in Houston.

We need reform. Our reputation is global for being one of the nastiest cities for animal abuse and neglect but more than that there is no leadership from you leaders. Sad.

People aren't getting it. Enough people are NOT getting the message. We need billboards everywhere/TV and radio messages like the one Marlo Thomas makes for St. Judes..... if your beloved family pet is safe, be happy and help the ones who are not!

Houston is one of the largest cities in the country and sadly it has one large secret. Animal overpopulation is on the rise and our current leadership has done very little to remedy the problem. Killing animals is not the solution, neither is breed legislation. Tougher breeding laws, educating the public about spaying/neutering, making it affordable to care for a pet, and TOUGH punishment for animal abusers. We need leadership in our city that will put ANIMAL RIGHTS front and center there are way too many animals in shelters and on the streets that die because our city leadership chooses to look the other way. I will vote for anyone who supports this change.

The situation in this city is both shameful and heartbreaking. The cruelty. The apathy. The suffering and the death. As a caring person it is beyond the pale to have to witness this each and every day. We need new laws. We need laws that are enforced. We need better policing in the 'corridor of cruelty.' We need HELP!

We need elected officials who are sympathetic to our animal populations here right at home in Houston! We need new facilities but most of all we need laws to make a difference in the pet population!

Houston needs a REAL solution to the pet overpopulation problem, it is our responsibility to make sure that the death, neglect, cruelty and needless suffering stops. It IS possible, with free spay and neutering of all pets and specially with education of young children and teens.
