The principle of social change requires a developed sense of empathy, as does compassion for the plight of animals who not only suffer in Houston's East End but through out the ENTIRE city of Houston. Until fundamental and underlying moral values are changed to recognize the importance of animal welfare they (and Houstonians) will continue to suffer needlessly. To bring about social change, we need education and awareness of our issues and strong support from our elected officials to bring animal welfare to the forefront. I have yet to see a Mayoral candidate include this issue on his agenda.

houston should be at the front of the animal welfare movement. Please support spay/neuter programs and strengthen and enforce anti-cruelty laws.

My dogs are not property they are human and they count too. Let's prosecute all those people that take advantage of a defenseless creature. Stand up and speak for them.

The animal situation in Houston is disgraceful. I don't believe it has to be this way. We need a plan and commitment from everyone but especially our leaders to do something about it.

Houston has one of the worst homeless animal problem of any large city, It has reached a crisis point, with rescue groups and caring volunteers doing the work the city should be doing, We can so much more to end this crisis. It needs to be a priority for the next Mayor and Administration.

I have always adopted strays or rescued animals. I have right now 2 wild cats at my apartment complex I am feeding and trying to "tame". If I don't get one of the cats soon she will be pregnant through no fault of her own adding to the unwanted cat population. No one should own an animal unless they have them spay and/or neutered.

A city the size of Houston MUST have the proper funding for BARC! Secondly, we need ENFORCEMENT of the laws already out there! I need a mayor and city council to make this a priority- no more excuses!
