Dear Municipal Mayor JAIME P. RUSILLON,

We, the residents of General Luna, comprised of Filipinos and expatriates, together with local and foreign tourists, wish to voice our concern.

We, together with you, need to find a temporary solution regarding the actual dumpsite located on the "back road" of General Luna.

Today and since more than year, this dump site is an open space without an access way, it's an open space where dogs eat dirty diapers, it's an open space where flies carrying bacteria proliferate by thousands, an open space where kids walk across broken glass and potential contamination, an open space where all junk overflow on the road...

Do you know that people living close to this dump site cannot open their windows during the day because hundreds of fly are invading their homes? Do you know that they have dozens of plastics and dirty diapers in their garden due to the wind and dogs? Do you know how many diseases can be developed for inhabitants living near a dump site and even people driving and passing by? We are talking about developing asthma, unknown allergies, pregnancy disorders, decrease in immune defenses (...)

We are aware that efforts are being made, that thanks to STOA and SEA Movement, that have signed Memorandum of Agreement to strengthen the cleanliness campaign. Everybody here try to reduce their wastes, resorts recycle, Taboan encourage people to bring bags, Biboy is making pillow with plastic (...) and it's great. But we need action from your higher level for this.

We, the residents of General Luna, comprised of Filipinos and
expatriates, together with local and foreign tourists, think you have the duty of making this dumpsite safe and a minimum organized.

Therefore, we kindly ask you to please take the following actions as soon as possible:

  1. Fence the whole area of the dumpsite
  2. Make only one entry/access for dump trucks with a gate
  3. Invest in large trash bins where people can throw their garbage. For example put 1 or 2 by purok. The dump trucks can then collect the waste and deliver to the dumpsite daily.
  4. Put a sign at the entrance explaining to people that this site is prohibited to public.

It's a small investment for a big return; happiness of your people, cleanness of our town, safety for our kids, prevention of contamination and bacteria proliferation, and finally a great image to give to our visitors.

Thank you very much in advance for your attention, for your cooperation and for your efforts.

Kind regards
