Show Support for the Grand Hotel Restoration by way of Tax Relief

The taxes should be waved, at least til the restoration is complete and making an income once opened.

Buildings that already have Heritage Status should be able to apply and receive tax incentives while being restored. This is the best way to encourage restoring our Country’s Historic Buildings. This program should be implemented across our great country.

I am aware of other towns and cities that offer this type of incentive and believe it is important as it not only helps the person(s) doing the restoration but also benefits the community where the restoration is taking place.

Seems a no brainer when you are showing that you are good to save the building before even getting help. I am sure a tax break is the least they can do!

This hotel deserves to be restored. It will attract tourists and other tax revenues. Think about the bigger picture.

Canada should enable the protection, upkeep and celebration of its well built historic public and commercial buildings. The built environment connects us to our history and our identity.

The potential revenue generation and positive social impact that a restored Grand Hotel would have on the community as a whole would be enormous from bringing in tourism, creating jobs and preserving culture and heritage. A tax incentive program would be a show of support for this and other such projects that could revitalize Shaunavon with little out of pocket expense from the municipality.

Heritage buildings are important

Heritage buildings, particularly accommodations, are an important part of what draws tourists to small towns and keeps them there. Supporting restoration of heritage buildings by reducing or eliminating property taxes during the restoration period seems like a minimal investment for the improvement of aging buildings in small communities. The alternative is unattractive derelict buildings that are definitely not a draw to tourists.

Don't be so cheap. Support local tax payers trying to do some good in your town.

Save our history!

These old historic buildings should be saved and if you have a person working hard to save these buildings, for gawd sakes help fund them. I am getting upset with money going out of country to help others when our country is falling apart

Let’s make this happen as so many benefits will flow to the town

Tax relief is the least you can do for this project. He is creating a unique experience and attracting a lot of interest. Saving a building from demolition that has many decades of life left and an interesting history.

Kent has been working diligently to get this project finished and I look forward to the day the labor of love is complete. I hope this petition gets the publicity it needs to save this historic building.
