Should Egg Donors be declined because they have a child born with Cleft?

This is disgusting and discriminating towards this lovely lady, parents have the right to choose if they would like to use these eggs or not I'm sure any mum wanting a baby would willingly use those eggs ! X

This is very wrong , if the parents wouldn't mind I don't see the problem to have a child with a cleft it truly a gift in my eyes

what a question...of cause not...at the end of the day...who is 2say...a baby born with cleft is just as normal as any other new baby. And if u r a parent...parent 2b....or hoping 2b a parent...b lieve u me...the love is stil so unconditionally...

There are other ways to contact couples looking for egg donors. I used prideangel.com which allows donors and recipients to message each other. That way individuals can make up their own minds about these things rather than beurocracy from clinics getting in the way.

I do think this is discriminative, and it is also stupid inefficiency on the part of the fertility clinic.

when there is such a shortage of egg donors why would such a decision be made without looking into things. Even if cleft related issues were such a terrible thing - which they are not - in this case the genetic link was the child's father. It really sounds like we are so determined to erradicate those who are different in the search for a perfect child.

This is disgusting to come from a fertility clinic they should be grateful there is people out there like Tanya willing to donate eggs, Tanya has every right to carry on donating, the women having IVF should be able to make the choice for them selfs it shouldnt be down to the clinic to decide,

Even if there was a family history from the mother, this isn't acceptable.

I am amazed that this is even an issue. I really don't see how a woman's eggs can be considered perfectly suitable for donation and then suddenly be unsuitable because her own child inherited a cleft lip from his dad. Couples needing to use donor eggs to have a baby would surely not refuse an egg from a perfectly healthy donor.

Not only is a cleft not a life threatening condition, but as the genetic trait in this case has clearly been passed on from the father not the mother, there is no reason at all not to allow egg donation!

this is disgusting! I'm sure that the new parents wouldn't be as selective as the clinic has been. They would probably be grateful for the chance to have a baby, cleft or not! In this instance it is clear that cleft is not a known issue on the mothers side so in no way should this effect further egg donations, especially as the mother in question has previously donated based on being an 'appropriate' candidate. Nothing has changed biologically since then. The clinic needs to be made aware that discrimination won't be tolerated in today's world.
