Already some NGOs/ charities such as Fair Pensions, the One Society and People & Planet pay their interns.

Nopaynoway argue that by refusing to pay for the work that interns and voluntary workers do (when that work would otherwise be done by an employee), many charities are:

avoiding the need to create entry-level jobs

making the sector exclusive - only those that can afford to work for free can enter it.

Nopaynoway are by no means against the spirit of volunteering and understand the restrictions on charities due to funding etc. but believe that the larger ones, that already operate as big businesses should be subject to the same legislation as the private sector.

Please sign here if you believe that large well-funded charities should pay their interns.

I have been hearing from so many of you who were forced to turn down life-changing opportunities just because you could not afford to work for free. This sector claims to value social equity while simultaneously shutting the door on anyone without family wealth to fall back on.

Seeing this level of support confirms that we are finally challenging the myth that working for free is just part of the job. I struggled to afford rent during my own internship and watching this momentum grow makes me feel like real change is finally within reach.

Charities act like big corporations so they should act like them when it comes to paychecks. Stop exploiting young people who want to help.

its so unfair that only rich kids can afford to get experience in this field. how are hard working people supposed to get a foot in the door if we cant afford to eat?
