At age 35, my cousin, Sherman Coleman, was convicted of two counts of robbery, one count of recklessly endangering another person, and one count of carrying a firearm without a license, all due to a drug addiction. He has been incarcerated for 28 years and has been given a minimum sentence of 30 years and a maximum sentence of 60 years.

Rae Carruth, a former Charlotte Panther, was convicted of a murderous crime against his pregnant girlfriend and was given a minimum sentence of 18 years. He is expected to be released on October 22nd, 2018.

So who would you rather walk on the same streets as you if you had to choose? A person who was convicted of non-violent crimes and has rehabilitated over the years, or a person who has murdered his own loved one and whose son is now paralyzed for the rest of his life because of him?

The weight of these signatures is starting to feel real even if the road ahead looks exhausting. Seeing this momentum grow reminds me why I started this fight for Sherman in the first place.

i would rather walk next to a man who didn't actual mean his minor crimes that a murderer who meant his crimes and the sentence is unfair its is a disgrace.

The copious amount of individuals that have to face this problem is beyond absurd. America is suppose to be a free and equal country and Sherman Coleman deserves justice which was not presented in his case. I do not see how it is fair for a murderer to receive a lesser sentence than someone who committed non-violent crimes. This makes me feel completely unsafe to know that I could possibly be walking the streets with former murderers!

This is just crazy. 28 years is way too long for a non violent crime when actual murderers are walking free. Free him now.

justice system is broken plain and simple. nobody deserves to sit that long just because they had a drug problem he served his time.
