Parents and friends - take a look at the front page article on the Huntington Herald from Wednesday August 23. It explains some of the issue but has inaccuracies. It neglects to say that our funding was cut by $6000 and the other league's funding went up by $6000. The way that Ron Herick calculated the $$ is, he counted boys in each program since that seems to be the priority in some circles (not ours). He counted only boys in both programs. He counted no girls at Pop Warner - 150 girls in 2010 - and counted no girls at AYF (not sure how many - maybe 40).
And so the problem remains- without this funding, SPW Cheer is in great need of free or inexpensive indoor practice space.
The city is offering unacceptable choices  - spaces that arent big enough to fit our girls or require mat transportation several times a night (7 mats 50 pounds each) to different locations. Safety is our number one priority - the girls need to practice on mats.
While we are still working with the Mayor and the Fire Marshall to resolve this, we are concerned that there may not be a solution in time. We are reaching out to our parents, friends, neighbors and alumni - we need an indoor practice space:
This is what we need:
  •  At least 60’ x 60 open space with No Poles
  • 20 foot ceilings
  •  Place where we can store Mats
  •  Starting end of September until end of November – evenings and Saturdays
  •  Bathrooms if possible (or spot outside for porta potty)
  •  Free or Low Cost
  • We will work with limitations with parking and/or timing. Does not have to be in Shelton. And SPW has its own insurance - can provide proof.

If you can help or know someone who can help please call Jody Bednarz 203 543 9513 or Erin Candler 203 556 4403.
