We, the undersigned qualified voters or taxpaying residents in the Village of Scarsdale, support the preservation of Harwood Park, and the fiscal soundness of the Village of Scarsdale. We therefore oppose the latest proposal of the Scarsdale Community Center, Inc. ("SCC") to insert in Harwood Park a 32,000 square-foot commercial facility, a facility of far greater scope and activity than the one initially proposed at the site of the Scarsdale Municipal Pool. The proposal contemplates burdening the Village with a $10 million debt obligation, with the risk of financial failure falling squarely on Scarsdale taxpayers. The proposed facility, projected to sit on the very border of a New York State-designated wetland, would also destroy a large portion of one of the Village's remaining parklands, and overburden local, residential streets with dangerous traffic and noise conditions. We hereby petition the Scarsdale Village Board of Trustees to reject the SCC proposal.
