The city has officially approved the installation of permanent shade structures at Skypark. This success reflects the persistence of every person who requested this improvement for our community play area. I will provide further information regarding the construction timeline once the city releases the final schedule.
We are so lucky to have such a wonderful playground and weather where we live but unfortunately the direct sun makes the playground equipment too hot to safely play on much of the day most of the year. Let’s get some canopies to provide shade so kids can play and enjoy the park safely.
The response to the proposal for shade structures at Skypark has surpassed my expectations. This momentum indicates that our community recognizes the importance of safe play spaces for our children. I am currently preparing to present this collective request to the parks department.

My kids love Sky Park, but on hot days it's impossible to use most of the equipment!

All the Scotts Valley parks need shade over the play equipment. Scotts Valley heat during the summer is no joke.

This would be something great to see happen..... there’s been times my grandson would go home screaming and yelling and crying because he couldn’t play:-(
Thank you so much

It’s frustrating when I take my kids to a playground to play but whoever planned the playground didn’t consider how the sun hits the equipment making it completely unuseable on hot days. Seems like a no brainer. Children’s play equipment needs to be shaded in the summer.

The structure in unusable during most of the day without shade. The kids get burnt by the swings and slides. The trees just aren’t enough.

Shade would greatly benefit our little ones! It would be lovely if the swings didn't get so hot I have to tell my very young daughter to wait.
