I'd like to add my voice in support of SFC Class Charles Martland. I commend him for giving the truly abusive Afghan police a taste of what he really deserves, which is imprisonment. How can a policeman in ANY country, let alone Afghanistan, admit to the offenses and then try to laugh off them off. Policemen are sworn to defend the population, not to kidnap and rape a little boy and then assault the boy's mother. How can other Afghan police "allow the honor killing of a 12-year-old girl after she kissed a boy" and get away with it? I'm all in favor of having rules of engagement, as far as our shooting at people or when returning fire, but some of the cultural stuff goes too far! We need to have a Muslim cleric sit in on all Afghan police and military training events and read the verses of the Koran that speak against pedophilia, raping and honor killing and in favor of moral, ethical conduct. We should be showing them situations as to what a policeman in the a NATO country would do, if he found out that one of his colleagues were committing such crimes, or if a family carried out or was planning an honor killing. Each Afghan trainee should be made to read a whole list of the dos and don'ts of legal and ethical conduct of a policeman and military members. As you can see, the punishment against SFC Martland and CPT Daniel Quinn for having beaten up the admitted perpetrator of multiple rapes of a small boy far exceeds what the guilty Afghan policeman received. These bad Afghans should be culled from their forces, so the rest can see that there are adverse consequences for such illegal, unethical and disgusting conduct. We need more Martlands and more Quinns and less overlooking of conduct of abusive perverts among the ranks of the Afghan security and defense forces against the people they're supposed to be protecting. Otherwise, we’re dishonoring the service of the professional, ethical and honorable majorities of both U.S. and Afghan police and armed force
