The idea that the [gutless!] D.O.D. would even consider the idea of discharging Sgt. Martland for doing what the American people consider his only recourse in the situation, is the most disgusting thing I've heard of in my 68 years of life! However considering the present anti-military Administration in the Whitehouse, I am NOT surprised!!

This is completely unacceptable and the Army should be ashamed of themselves and brush up on the word integrity. Defending an abused innocent child and his helpless mother is worthy of honor not PC motivated discharge. Green Berets "free the oppressed"!! Get it together Army, Congress, and all those in leadership - America expects MUCH more of you. Do the right thing - keep him in, wipe his record clean of this debacle, honor him, and most of all humble yourself and apologize to him and the SF community.

As an American citizen I am terribly disturbed that one of our finest is being treated I such a reprehensible way. Every day that we stand idly by and allow this administration to strip our fighting forces of their ability to do their duties it's another day that we are agreeing to their disgusting actions. What if it were one of their children , or the presidents daughter's? Would he still allow these fine men to be treated this way? I for one am very angry that this is happening. We the people have got to stand up and let our voices be heard !

This is a guy you want to keep in the force.
He was NOT looking away. He got INVOLVED and intervened. Kicking him out would send the following message to the wrongdoers:
"Keep doing whatever you like- nobody will hold you accountable".
I wish he would watch my back, when things get bad.

This Green Beret did exactly what any right minded American serviceman should do. He reacted to an immoral situation with moral indignation. We've already seen senior commanders and chaplains being harassed and/or relieved of duty under false pretenses and now this egregious act. Our leadership should be proud of this man and his direct supervisor! It is a sorry state of affairs when political correctness can lead to this shameful action.

It is incomprehensible how Haas could reprimand, much less recommend dismissal for Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland for standing up for a child who was brutally and repeatedly raped by an Afghan, who is responsible to the US government for his position. He is quoted as saying: "Your behavior is inexcusable and incompatible with the high standards of performance, military discipline and operational readiness of Special Forces''. IMO, one has to wonder how you rose to a position of responsibility in Special Operations when you can't recognize that Sgt. 1st Class Martland was, indeed, accomplishing his duty according to a number of SOF Core Activities:
Foreign Internal Defense: Activities that support an HN's internal defense and development (IDAD) strategy and program designed to protect against subversion, lawlessness, insurgency, terrorism, and other threats to their internal security, and stability, and legitimacy.
Civil Affairs Operations: CAO enhance the relationship between military forces and civilian authorities in localities where military forces are present.
Military Information Support Operations. MISO are planned to convey selected information and indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, objective reasoning, and ultimately the behavior of foreign governments, organizations, groups, and individuals in a manner favorable to the originator's objectives.
Security Force Assistance: Activities based on organizing, training, equipping, rebuilding, and advising various components of Foreign Security Forces.
Foreign Humanitarian Assistance. The range of DOD humanitarian activities conducted outside the US and its territories to relieve or reduce human suffering, disease, hunger, or privation.

What you are doing is not civil, humane or righteous. In my most respectful deamonor possible, do something about this, he does NOT deserve any wrong doing punishment. He was a hero for sticking up for that child, and is a hero till the end of time for his commitment to our country and his acts of aggression representing our country.
