SFC Martland was sent there to do a job and he did it in a professional manner. Now trhe PC police want to literally hang him for his efforts. A sad state of affairs, starting at the top.

An Ugly American would have ignored the pleas of a mother for her child, this soldier responded with honor and compassion, hardly something he should be punished for...unless you want the world to think we have no regard for such things. If that is the case, shame on YOU!

SFC Martland Should be honored as a hero and not forced to defend his actions against a reprehensible act towards a minor. All our troops should act according to the highest moral standards regardless of the country they are deployed to.

I submit this petition without hesitation. I am retired from the military, a proven combat medic serving 3 years in Vietnam of which 1.5 years was as an advisor to the Vietnamese soldiers. This soldier was doing his duty as a professional soldier and has had nothing less than OUTSTANDING JOB PERFORMANCE reports. He tolerated the abuse of this child for longer than I could have. He is MORALLY correct in his actions and has received his reprimand from a flag officer and now they are trying to kick him out of the Army. This make no sense and looks like double punishment for the same infraction. The second punishment sure does not or ever will match the punishment for such a minor infraction. SFC Charles Martland should be allowed to serve the remaining period of time until he is eligible for retirement.

Respecting local customs is one thing. Intervening when illegal & immoral abuse is perpetrated against civilians is what we should expect of our military elite.

Morally, the rape of a child is wrong in any culture. In any country. SFC Charles Martland deserves to continue his career and service to our country and the world.

Just read an article in our local paper, The Tacoma News Tribune, in regards to the future career of SFC Charles Martland. Seems to me he is exactly the kind of man that our military forces
need. I urge the U. S. Army "decision- makers and the politicians" to do the right thing and find a solution within their bureaucratic system to allow SFC Martland to continue to be of service to our country. This is a "no-brainer" and continues to paint the Army leaders with the big, black brush of "lack of common sense." Very bad public relations for the Army brass, future enlistees, and family trust. Do the right thing and find a solution!

This is a horrible situation, I don't know SFC Martland, personally, but to know because the government/military wants to down size the keep proving that we are just numbers to them. I'm a veteran, I served for nine years in the Army and completed three combat tours which totaled to be 37 months. All we are is a number that is willing to die for the lives of others. God Bless you SFC Martland!

Army policy is wrong on so many levels. This man acted in defense of others. Hopefully we will find a REAL leader to reverse this travesty.

I stand by SFC Martland and commend him for doing the "right thing". It is a shame our Army leaders have chosen to punish those who would correct and avenge a child's rape by those we have conquered. SFC Martland is a hero and should be commended for his actions.

There has to be a line between MORALITY and COMMON SENSE. I believe SFC Martland was morally within his rights to do what he did. We should not be blind to abuse of others.

He upheld the orders of HIS Commander, before the orders of his superiors. He did what we are all taught in life as Americans, To Stand For Those Who Cant! I'm proud to have worn the same Uniform!!!

I'm appalled by the Army command's decision to involuntary discharge this man. Overall, the fact that our Army is expected to "look the other way" when children are raped in murdered disgusts me.
