Thank you SFC Martland [and Capt Quinn] for choosing morals and ethics over policy. When you look in the mirror each day, be proud of who you are and with a clear conscience. This should serve as further example for our leaders to re-evaluate policy. Our allies should show the same respect to OUR moral beliefs and conduct if we are providing support, especially at the cost of our soldiers lives and sacrifices made.

As a tax payer, I demand we have a soldier like SFC Martland continue to serve the people of the United States.
The message to the Afghan commander and his cohorts was clear. This behavior must end. For that I am grateful.

I am a former Navy CPO that earned a commission and now have reached the rank of CAPT (O-6), I have been in the Navy for nearly 39 years. The most important lesson that our soldiers/sailors/marines/guardsmen must learn is that we must follow "lawful" orders. Orders that are outside our moral or ethical boundaries must be declined. It takes an immense sense of inner strength to refuse or stand-up to a situation when everyone around you is going along with the "plan". I applaud SFC Martland and CPT Quinn for refusing to look away in the face of such atrocities. Our "allies" must learn that our military and economic support comes at a "price" and our men/women in uniform will not compromise their training and moral imperative while serving in their country. I am ashamed that our senior military leadership seems to have forgotten the lessons of WWII / Korea / Vietnam where blind adherence to orders led to death camps and mass killings of innocent people. SFC Martland's "punishment" should be expunged from his record and this situation used publicly as a training tool so that our soldiers (and leaders) can be better prepared when they deploy to the battlefield. To SFC Martland I say, "Stay strong, brother. You are an inspiration to all and represent the best of what our nation has to offer the world".

The motto of the Green Berets is, "De Oppresso Liber!" This is what SFC Martland did. Who else is going to fight for those who can't fight for themselves, especially children. Get rid of the politicians and retain our brilliant military leaders like SFC Martland.

Shame on the US Army for asking a soldier to put aside his morals and values taught and instilled in him by the very organization that is using them to discharge him. I have 5 classmates that made General Officer rank and was myself, a product of a similar witch hunt in 1996. After surviving cancer from the Gulf War and continuing on active duty, I was taken out of a Change of Command inventory and denied command on a brand new post based on hearsay evidence from an E-4 with less than 3 years in the Army. I resigned my commission and recently retired after a successful career elsewhere. I'am now a 100% disabled veteran. Save this soldier and the money you have invested in his career. His performance stands alone.

QMP is a good program but often sweeps up unitended victims. Each soldier should have a complete review of his or her records before he is barred from reinlistment.

By the accounts I have read, SFC Martland is a fine soldier. If the United States Army is serious about the prevention of sexual harassment and sexual assault, this soldier should be awarded a medal, not being discharged.
