I am a United States Navy Intelligence Officer and I stand with SFC Martland. Morality is a permeable blanket used when it benefits us. Whatever happened to punishment fitting the crime? This man stood up and defended an innocent child. That he is being drummed out of the military suggests that in this modern era, Hugh Thompson would have been imprisoned for his act of saving lives in Vietnam.

The story is despicable. The blind eye of the superiors of Charles Martland in this matter is nothing more then pandering and is on their shoulders. The horrific treatment of this little boy is the fault of Charles Martland superiors. It falls on their shoulders and they should be prosecuted.

This is an outrage. Someone with enough authority fix this NOW!!!! I hope he leaves the military and writes a book making millions. The "other" unit that acted on the child rapists claim should hide their head in shame, you are an embarrassment to the uniform you cowardly child rapist defenders.

I don't know how this soldier who is obviously trained to kill our enemies was able to restrain himself to the point of just a beating. He should be commended rather than remanded for representing the high standards that all Americans should aspire to live up to. Rather than remove someone from the service who has faced the prospect of sudden death in a war torn Country, our Military leaders should look as those who have provided less than stellar service as the rear echelon who have never been deployed. Please keep SFC Martland as one of highly respected Special Forces Operator. You would be hard pressed to replace a man of this caliber!

I don't care if it is Afghan tradition to rape and do honor killings. It's 2015 and that type of stuff cannot be tolerated. SFC Martland did what he had to do to protect an innocent young boy, and THAT makes him a good soldier. The Army needs to let him stay in!
