Where are the procedures to ensure that this nuclear waste is handled safely?

Please implement contingency plans for potential accidents and monitor radiation constantly with transparency to the public.

NRC -- please do your job and fully investigate the on-site storage at SONGS, especially this near miss accident!! This waste needs to be moved a few miles away to Camp Pendleton and stored in robust buildings in thick-walled canisters as is done in Germany and Japan. This is the ONLY "safest" way to store the high-level waste from SONGS until a truly scientifically acceptable site for permanent disposal is found.

Store nuke waste somewhere else!

I’m back from a 3500 mile road trip. Incredible when one returns home to a probable nuclear disaster within city limits. SCE counts on the sheer insanity of their effort to dumbfound the citizens as they just can’t get their heads to accept the inevitable catastrophe. The nuclear warning clock is at 23:59:53 hours.

We don’t want a major public health disaster.

I hope all you diligent activists move away and continue your activism from afar. You KNOW the danger.

What happens at San Onofre influences what happens worldwide to nuclear waste. This affects all of us, so this issue must be dealt with carefully and with concern for life on Planet Earth.

VERY concerned about the handling of this extremely deadly material!

We must get this one right! This site is also on the sand of the Pacific with terrifying remembrances of the aftermath of spillage into the sea from Fukushima. Can you imagine the millions of people in the LA basin and beyond who would be affected if we didn't get this absolutely right this time?

We definitely need a safety plan until the problem of the canisters is resolved. It's a disaster waiting to happen and almost did.

SCE should post a multi-billion dollar bond to prevent ratepayers having to pay for ANY problems related to San Onofre. That would protect our environment and US by making sure that SCE would not cut any corners or profit from any future San Onofre ☢ Waste cleanup!

I have always loved this part of the California coast, and I return to it whenever I can. I urge the decision-makers in this matter to take the requested actions and to consider the rights and needs of ALL stakeholders, present and future, when deciding on short- and long-term approaches to safe decommissioning of the San Onofre nuclear power plant and safe storage of its waste products.
