It is shameful for you to accept money from Betsy DeVos and then appoint her to a public office! That is a serious conflict of interest and I ask you to recuse yourself from voting on her confirmation!

Public education is a cornerstone of our democracy. A secretary of education who has had an agenda to replace public education with charter schools, including religious schools and for-profit schools to be funded from public funds is out of touch with our Constitution and democratic values. As a recipient of considerable funds from the candidate and her family as advocates of replacing public schools, you should recuse yourself on this nomination.

Second: good public education systems are the heart of our democracy and DeVos would do her best to destroy this route in to the middle class. Our country is in great danger for what each of you are doing. You have been funded by the Devos family and now are in a position to pay them back. Be brave, do whats honorable, abstain. I worked on the Barbara Bush literacy demonstration project during the 1980s the most disturbing thing was that I had more skills than the person running the federal department the grant came through . Education requires the most skilled cabinet head not the one who has the most clout. Do not approve Betsy Devoss
