This is a good idea, I would like to add that if given the chance to be released on parole for a life sentence and they offend again. Then they should be on trial facing Capitol punishment. Our prisons are amongst the most luxurious in the world, to some people it's a better set up then when they were living in the streets which is sad. Fix that issue as well.

I believe that a lot of life sentences should be reconsidered considering a lot them were handed down while the offender was in their youth. I doubt this comment will even get reviewed but I am still going to post it. I was recently incarsarated with many lifers who are stuck with no options as well as no resources to even begin to seek their own justice. I really hope this gets recognized. Not only are the offenders suffering but the families and spouses as well. Thank you. You will hear from me again. Thanks for your time. Sarah White!

Give 1st time violent offender a second chance and parole eligibility when 55% of sentence is served.

It's time Louisiana make some changes. The incarceration rate here is ridiculous.

I feel like a first offender deserves a second chance. Especially those with no past criminal history.

Louisiana's sentencing laws have to be reformed! Giving life sentences to 1st time offenders at a young age is not human. I have a friend that was sentenced at the age of 23 to life. Her lawyer got her to plea guilty to 2nd degree murder and that was a bad judgement call. She needs to have her day in court. Her name is Amy Thomas, She is in Louisiana. The laws HAVE to be reformed!

Research has shown that if 20 yrs are served and a defendant is 45 yrs old, there is less than 1% risk of reoffending. This bill would help bring Louisiana down from its throne of being the number one incarcerator in the world. Pass this bill!

First offenders should be given the opportunity for parole after serving part of their sentences.
