My heart truly aches for those who have never been in trouble. I'm in michigan my fiance was indicted on a trafficking charge marijuana from 2010 .six years later he was indicted .the federal court wants to place hin in federal prison for 3.5 -4 years . No criminal history. A man who suffers from PTSD .severely at high risk for heart attack . Loved by all family and friends .it's totally heartbreaking so my heart goes out to all in this situation. I'll never give up on getting his sentence reduced and do what I can to help those in similar situations. No alternative to prison was given. I'm totally sickened by our system. A person can murder someone and see less time. Heartbroke disgusted and scared.

I agree with this petition. I know some of the inmates may be incarcerated due to a 3rd felony but I pray & hope for another chance for those who have made a change in there life while being incarcerated.

I believe those serving a life sentence with good behavior records should have a second chance at living in society.

Louisiana denies parole consideration to its entire lifer’s population. Lifers in Louisiana are usually the least problematic and more receptive to educational and vocational programs. They are less likely to engage in violence or drug usage, and more likely to have a positive effect on the general prison population. Educated lifers can be a stabilizing influence in an often chaotic environment, enhancing the safety and security of all who live and work in the correctional facility. Rehabilitation, as defined, is to restore to effectiveness, especially after imprisonment. There are thousands of offenders serving life sentences who are remorseful and rehabilitated. They realized that they have done wrong and are sorry for their crimes. Many have exhibited exceptionally good prison behavior, earned both vocational and academic honors and participated in numerous volunteer prison programs. In addition, the former prison warden of Louisiana State Prison, Burl Cain, believes that, "true rehabilitation comes from within an individual." The most rehabilitative lifers are first offenders. First offenders are considered to pose undue risk of committing another crime, as well as lacks a prior criminal record and possesses the likelihood of rehabilitation. Ronald Anthony Schexnayder, Jr., was tried and found guilty by an Iberville parish jury of 2nd degree murder for killing his friend, Donovan Pooler, over a bicycle. Schexnayder received a LIFE sentence, but was subjected to the only sentence required under 2nd degree murder. Since Schexnayder, 22 years old at the time of the offense, was a first felony offender, the court has denied several attempts to reconsider his sentence. Over 22 years of incarceration, Schexnayder has been asking the court to consider the issue of whether his severe hearing impairment render him an unfair trial. I feel it's time to let my ppl go! There was a time when a man(human) did a petty crime they would serve and be redeemed and re turned to society to become productive! But now it's much easier to lock them away and thro away the key! I fully understand some crimes rare punishable by life, but come on, no manny are petty! Plz make a change! Too many children need their parent at home! God Bless
