This boy made a mistake, but the sentence was way more ridiculous than the crime! What a miscarriage of justice that was! I wouldn't want to live In that State! He became a Pastor, and a model prisoner, and his sentence should be commuted immediately! Do the right thing, please! Amen!...

To consider a first time offender for a life sentence, the crime would have to be especially egregious. In the case of Justin Granier, specifically, it would seem that he has done good works while in prison that would, in many states, allow for parole after a certain amount of time. If the aim of the department of corrections is to correct behavior and help people live just and civilized lives, then the corrections they make while they're in prison should be taken into account. And we wonder why there is overcrowding in prisons...

I support this bill. As a former corrections officer and as someone who has a brother serving a life sentence (as a first time offender and as “principal” to the crime), this is long overdue. The prison system is over extended and this is one significant way to alleviate this burden and provides some sense of fairness and motivation for rehabilitation. Having an understanding of both sides, I have no illusions and I see this in a balanced way. My only vested interest is in fairness and relief for those burdened by the current situation.

Everyone incarcerated needs a second chance. The warden and others that work with these men and women know which ones have been rehabilitated and will become productive citizens upon release.
