Blades Down CIC are calling on our local council to install secure knife surrender bins across Ellesmere Port and surrounding areas, not just in police stations, but in the heart of our communities, accessible all year round.

Right now, surrendering a weapon often means walking into a police station, and let’s be honest, that can be intimidating, especially for young people who might want to make a change or fear they may get into trouble. We need to meet people where they are, in our communities, our neighbourhoods, our streets.

What Are Secure Surrender Bins?
They’re tamper-proof, lockable containers drilled into the ground, where individuals can anonymously dispose of knives and other weapons safely. Once surrendered, the items are destroyed. It’s a simple but powerful way to get dangerous items off the streets, no questions asked.

Why Do They Work?

- They remove weapons from circulation.
- They provide a non-judgemental route to change.
- They’ve been proven to reduce weapon-carrying, especially when placed in trusted community spaces.

In other towns, thousands of knives have been surrendered through community-placed bins. Every single one is a life potentially saved.

Temporary bins during ‘awareness weeks’ aren’t enough.
We don’t face knife crime once a year, we face it all year. We need permanent solutions to a permanent problem.

Sign the petition today. Let’s show the council that Ellesmere Port is ready to take real action.
Let’s make our streets safer, together.

About time. Walking into a police station feels like your being accused of something even if your just trying to do the right thing. Keep these off our streets please.

Living in Ellesmere Port my whole life and it used to be so much safer. Really hope these bins actually get put in soon.
