Sign to Oppose A High-Speed Rail Bypass Through Southeastern Connecticut

I am located at the Kenyon, RI end of this potential fiasco. The Bypass as last proposed would cut through my property - essentially splitting my 2 acres in half!! There are 3 or 4 private properties that would be seriously impacted by this plan. Just DON'T.

The destruction of coastal town centers, farmland, heritage sites, and homes in no way, shape, or form, is worth the 25 minute savings for a train passenger!!

I highly oppose the proposed high speed rail system. A 20 minute time savings isn't worth the billions of dollars it will cost and the devaluation of property in the towns.

I urge the powers that be to review the devastating effect this bypass would cause a beloved, historic , environmental gem of southeastern Connecticut. There must be another option. PLEASE reconsider and take a drive to the area so you can see first hand what you are suggesting here.

FRA must remove from any future planning this misguided plan for the Northeast corridor.

This is a poorly thought out plan that will have a hugely negative impact on so many communities.

This RR proposal if passed will destroy so many unspoiled sanctuaries in our state and will negativity impact small businesses in many, many communicates already struggling to stay in business. Please stop this destructive effort. NM

Dear FRA I am writing in strong opposition to the FRA's current Tier I plan for the “Old Saybrook to Kenyon” bypass. The FRA has not taken into account the severe negative impact on all of the communities in Connecticut and Rhode Island affected by this bypass. I strongly urge that more investigation be done by the FRA into what the actual impact would be from an environmental and economic standpoint to all the communities, historic landmarks, fragile wetlands along the proposed path. The economic impact would be terrible. The bypass would cut through historic parts of Old Lyme, including the Florence Griswold Museum and Lyme Academy of Arts, Mystic Aquarium, Olde Mystick Village and many small businesses along its path. The Aquarium is one of the state's biggest tourist attractions. It has been documented that property values in Old Lyme have already been negatively impacted. The bypass would irreparably damage White Rock, the sole aquifer which supplies 6.5 million gallons of water daily to Westerly RI, Pawcatuck and Stonington CT. It would also impact the sole aquifer which supplies water to Old Lyme forcing these towns to desalinate ocean water to provide drinkable water to these communities! Unacceptable! The environmental impact would be terrible. It is documented that by building a tunnel under the Connecticut River at the proposed area would devastate fragile estuaries and wetlands and pose a real threat to at least three different endangered species of birds. And the bypass would cut through farmland including a fourth generation cattle farm in Charlestown, RI, Narragansett Tribal Land and some of the most historic properties in our region. This is just not acceptable! When all is said and done, only 20 minutes will actually have been shaved off of travel time between DC and Boston! Instead of moving forward now with spending $135 billion on new bridges and tunnels cutting through historic towns, farmland, tribal land, disrupting natural ecolo

Please discard the Kenyon to Saybrook bypass: Don't want to see the historic towns and estuaries of southeastern CT and southwestern RI damaged.
