this a quality of life issue, not appropriate, the city should not have allowed building permits unless they were going to change it to a quiet zone.

The train horns are TERRIBLE! Please make them stop. This is SO unnecessary.

Does the train operator or remote controlled unit really need to BLAST THE HORN for 30 seconds or more at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning (or any other time for that matter)? Give me a break. We're tired of waking up to it and it is unacceptable.

While I understand the need to alert cars and people that might be close to the train tracks, some, if not most of the train horns are just unacceptable loud at night . The noise disrupts our sleep every night.I already looked into filing a noise complaint with City of Portland, but this type (related to railroads) is not covered. I am planning to contact the Federal Railroad Admin for guidance.

We are also awakened by the trains and disturbed by them during the day. Seems like the railroads are getting away with paying fewer employees (unmanned trains,) while we are paying the price by the more frequent horns required.

I live on 32nd Ave north of Division and I am frequently jolted awake, at all hours of the night, by the incessant train horns.

I've been woken every night for so long it was part of my sleep pattern but lately it is so horribly loud that I'm beginning to worry about my health? I can't imagine what my neighbors south of me must be going through. There has to be an answer???

Although my property may seem far away from the sonic blast zone of Ladds Addition and Brooklyn, these horns wake me up at 12am, 2-3am, 4am. Acoustically, the horns' sound waves channel up the E/W streets with minimal interference. The noise is especially loud when walking through Lone Fir Cemetary, the lack of buildings means that the sound travels undampened. I can only imagine the impact on people living closer would be exponentially more harmful.

The trains blasting in the middle of the night are definitely shifting from bad to outrageously worse. My family's sleep (and those of many of my neighbors) is continually disrupted on a regular basis. Ear plugs, putting in double pane windows etc. nothing has turned out to be a solution. Sleep disruption (whether you're fully awoken after the fourth or fifth blast in the middle of the night, as I am, or not even aware of the disruption, like my children who often shift restlessly in their sleep with each horn blast, but don't fully wake up) is very harmful to a child's neurobehavioral development, as well as a person's overall health and cognition, not to mention sanity.
I know the city, after a major resident-led struggle, has been working with federal regulators in planning for a quiet zone at a couple of crossings (where the new light rail runs parallel), but they must expand this quiet zone to include all crossings that are in the noise blast vicinity of residential neighborhoods, and expedite the process as much as possible.
The science is clear about the deleterious effects that sleep disruption can have on our health. It's high time for the city to put a stop to this madness.

The train horns wake me up at least once per night. It seems they have become more frequent and much louder than I remember in recent years.

Getting very noisy at night. Not only are the blasts louder, but they seem to be longer as well. Particularly troublesome in the evenings.

The community would appreciate the Quiet Zone going into effect prior to the Sept 2015 launch of the Milwaukie light rail.

I am willing to volunteer time in any effort to curb noise pollution. I hate the horns.
