We have gone back to living payday to payday here in San Diego. Gas keeps going up, along with food and housing, its only going to get worse.

Not only is all our BAH taken away to pay for what should be ALL utilities, I have to pay monthly for electricity that is based off a shared lump sum. And then the local CDCs have super long wait lists that I have to use out in town expensive preschools or consider staying at home, which is also too expensive for me to do.

My husband and I have tried to move a few times because honestly, base housing for any rank under Sgt is small, or bad. I strongly dislike Lincoln for several reasons. It is so expensive to live anywhere with our daughter that isn't smaller than where we are at, which is the majority of the problem. We have no space, not enough storage space, etc. I would truly love to fight for this to happen.

I would like to sign the petition for COLA in San Diego. We have been stationed here for six years and have made many lifestyle decisions most cannot relate unless they have been stationed here. I have a Bachelors in Psychology and am unable to use it because of the cost of child care and what I would earn isn't realistic. We've moved all of the way to Alpine for a better quality of life and my husband travels far to base. I feel we struggle more monthly still than we should given his current rank and my professional experience. Cola needs to be seriously considered.

As an incoming family into San Diego we have been struggling to find a decent home under $3000 for us and our two children. That's absurd! Something needs to be done to compensate for the housing crisis.

I, too, currently live in San Diego County. I live in military housing with my husband, 1 y/o son, & small puppy. It truely is expensive to live here. We are from Washington state. & the cost of living here is double. & most housing areas here take full BAH. We save nothing.

As a native Californian, I know the cost or living here is higher than the average American city. While I am so thankful for the benefit of BAH, I do think that the amount we are given for this area is not enough to ensure a comfortable life military families. We currently live in a neighborhood that is covered in graffiti, in a home in desperate need of repairs, and in a school zone with terrible ratings. This is where we could afford to live with the BAH we are given. Additionally, many military spouses have a difficult time being hired because of our frequent moving. I am one of those spouses that has not been able to land a job, even with a college degree and veteran hiring preference. We are constantly budgeting, so we know that we are being responsible with what we have. I believe that our family would benefit from COLA. Not only would it allow us to move to a safer neighborhood, but it would alleviate the financial strain of many military families having to live off of one income.

We have just moved to San Diego and are overwhelmed by how much more expensive to live here. We have essentially taken a pay cut to move here.

San Diego, like many major California cities, is experiencing sharp increases in cost of living expenses all around. Military families stationed in San Diego absolutely need a COLA in order to make ends meet and maintain morale as expenses continue to rise.

My husband and I can't afford to start a family in SD and be able to make ends meet. We also live 25 miles away from base in Lakeside which with traffic could take him an hour or longer to get to work.

We are struggling to find a decent place to live and we don't even have kids or pets. It's very tough to save money here. Anywhere with decent rent is so far that my husband's commute would be ridiculously long and far.

When we moved here from DC I thought it would cost similarly. B/c there isn't a slug or mass transit option you HAVE to live closer to the base if you don't want a horrible commute, which means DRASTICALLY higher cost of living for EVERYTHING! It is significantly more expensive here then DC, I would definitely say we are on par with Hawaii and they get COLA. This really should be considered

We just moved to SD from overseas where we received COLA the loss of that income was staggering. We needed a good space for 4 kids and because we are a blue side officer family stationed at north island base housing is almost impossible to get. We had to compete with many other families just to get into a renta home and rent several hundered dollars above BAH. This obviously does not include the high cost of utilities, gas, groceries (commasseries aren't nearby as we had to live further out to afford housing), or the fact that rents have risen to meet or exceed the recent BAH adjustments. Moving often is so expensive. Add moving to a pricey city and YIKES. Im outraged that San Diego does not provide military members with COLA--the day to day living costs are simply outrageous and military families are left with a life that sacrifices important home comforts/space OR they just can't save and ever get ahead.

I am a chief spouse and we are struggling each months pay check to paycheck even when I am working and daycare cost over $2000 to $2500 a month for two child. I also work but we lived in the navy housing in Miramar Marine Air bases and they take all our BAH.
