Having lived in San Diego twice already our family has had to make very difficult decisions regarding housing and food because the SD economy is so expensive to live on.

I grew up in San Diego and now we are moving back as we look at the housing options we are so upset that we will have to move over a hour or more away from my husbands work just to survive and live ina. Some what ok house and neighborhood. Something needs to be done ASAP!!

Our credit has taken a hit because we can't even afford to pay all of our bills. I work full time and my husband is an E-5. There have been quite a few times that we've even had to get loans from the Relief Society just to buy groceries.

My spouse and I are lucky enough to have family help us afford to live in SD, otherwise we would have gone through all of our savings trying to afford to live here during our tour. I know families of 4+ trying to figure out how to live in a 2 bedroom because that's all they can afford.

Our family is PCSing to SD by the end of this year or early 2018. We've been the waitlist for almost a year and are still 5th in line for housing. I've continued to research homes available out in town in case we need a back up, but the prices for homes are ridiculously high. Being able to find a decent size home in a good area with great schools under budget is pretty impossible, especially when the utilities are also very expensive. As a family of four we would need to settle for a small two bedroom and then pay for a storage unit to even come close to (hopefully) staying under bah. The needs of our families should be a top priority, though that has fallen wayside. Here's to hoping for a turn around.

Myself and other spouses that I know are PCSing to SD VERY soon. School ratings are horrible, housing wait lists are ridiculously long, and current BAH simply does not cover housing/cost ratios. We are genuinely concerned for our families' quality of living, and would challenge the appropriate people to ask themselves if this correlates with our honorable Navy standards?

the average home to rent cost between 1900 to 2500 in San Diego. Your BAH does not cover your and your utilities like it is suppose to do. With the cost of living going up every year in San Diego it is very hard to live there and most families have to live pay check to pay check. When a family is overseas and then they come back state side, the majority of families take a huge blow to their income. If there was COLA in San Diego, life would be much easier and lift some of the stress off the families that are stationed there.

We have to leave and hour out from my husband base (naval base san diago) in Ramona so get a apparment that we can afford we had one in Chula Vista that was 10 mins away and we were doing ok but when it was time for our one year less to be renews our rent was going to be over 2,000 that was almost all of his first pay check with our bah it's so crazy. Now we pay a 3rd that but still way to high and he has to drive and hour away to get to work. Something need to be done. The what time for gov house is almost a year long.

It's ridiculous that the pay given to cover housing , barely covers anything. military families are living month to month to get by , that's crazy

I do not know what is going on in San Diego but the cost of living especially housing (rental value) has gone up significantly. The food cost is tremendously high and higher tax rates accompanied with very low employment rates and even lower wages. It seems as though every single year the rate of rental prices goes up by more than a 100% which doesn't even make sense as to why these rental price tags have gone up. A 2 bed/ 1 bath that cost around $1150 in 2011 is now $1750 that's $600 which means every single year the rent went up by $100, why?

Yes. We do struggle with money every paycheck. I have a family of 5 and I am seriously thinking about asking the government for food stamps. M6 husband is the only one working because our kids younger twins are not in school yet. It's been really hard for us, so please consider giving COLA to the military families.

As a military wife who has no choice but to work full time in order to make ends meet, this resonates strongly. I am a grad school student who would love to be able to focus solely on school but the cost of living does not allow me the opportunity to even work part time. I have friends that struggle even more so with multiple children and one income! It's time for a cost of living adjustment.

Any enlisted military families with prior debt (student loans or a vehicle purchase for example) who get stationed out here are going to struggle immensely. Most other areas in California get COLA, why not San Diego? Otherwise BAH needs to be substantially raised as well.
