We , the undersigned, hereby petition the Township of Scotch Plains council to refrain from considering or voting favorably on a proposed ordinance that would disband the Township Recreation Commission.

As citizens of our township we are of the opinion that the commission has been charged with the responsibility of promoting and maintaining recreation programs and facilities and should continue to do so in the future. We also believe there is a great rush to action that is totally unwarranted. More research and discussion should occur before any action is considered. This rush to judgement suggests that there is a political motive, and we the undersigned wish to maintain the separation from politics for field usage for our children's youth sports activities. It's been working well since just after WW II, there is no problem to be fixed.

SO, please refrain from taking any action to the contrary so that the community can continue to benefit from the independent nature of the recreation commission that has worked so well for our kids.

just hit 250 signatures and im honestly blown away by how many of you care about keeping our rec commission independent. its really clear that we arent the only ones who think this rush to change things is a bad idea. lets keep this energy going so the council knows we are serious.

Tough to understand what we gain. The move seems to strengthen a Union County politician who also serves as SP town manager; call me skeptical of consolidating political authority.

The wonderful programs offered by the Recreation Department is something I routinely brag about when introducing new homebuyers to Scotch Plains! I'm so proud of this town & the sense of community, and all the town has to offer. Please don't disband the Recreation Commission!

As former member and chair of Rec Commission I know that Rec Comm structure works well for the benefit of the citizens and not the pleasure of the politicians in power at any particular time.if it isn't broke, don't fix it!

In December we were assured by the Town Council this was not even on their radar. Yet here we are. Leave the Rec Commission alone to keep doing the great job they have been doing.

All three of my children have been a part of these programs. It would be a shame for a town our size not to have a rec program. Travel sports are not for all children and this program allows children that may just play sports for fun the opportunity to do so without high costs.

My son and I were active participants in scotch plains rec basketball program for 6+ years...he as a player and myself as a volunteer coach. The program is fantastic and should be left intact. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
