Final supporters
Our names are Ethan F, Weston F, and Joseph K and we are seventh graders at Terrill Middle School. Every day, parents send their children to school thinking that they will be safe. The recent tragedy in Parkland, Florida has taught us that this isn’t always the case.
Our school district needs to invest in the safety of all of the children of Scotch Plains and Fanwood, New Jersey. As a member of the SPF community, please sign our petition to show your support of this important issue. Efforts like school IDs for all students, more security guards, and police officers in every building are an investment not only in our schools, but in our future.

We have been reading through the thoughtful comments many of you have left regarding your concerns for our schools. These perspectives strengthen our resolve to keep talking with district leadership about meaningful safety improvements. We are currently preparing a formal letter to outline these concerns based on everything we have heard here.

As a parent of SP/F children, I fully support this petition. As an inner-city middle school teacher, I know there is a need for these things. We should not be naïve to think that it could not happen in the suburbs. It is important to be proactive. Having security guards utilizing wands at the entranceways is an additional, visual deterrent which I recommend. Wands are are very inexpensive, and an additional deterrent. Security guards and officers are necessary at all schools.
I love your idea and I think it is really important to keep our schools safe. Just keep in mind that having to many security guards/police will make the school feel like a jail. It could also put teachers out of their jobs because the school needs to pay the officers. Not trying to be negative just trying to give some constructive criticisms. Other then that I think this initiative is great.
Time for all our schools to get more security to keep the kids and teachers safe. Good luck with your project!

Thank you for creating this petition. We need to be sure we’re doing everything in our power to prevent our district from being the next one to suffer the loss of life from gun violence.
