Candidates that successfully passed the written knowledge portion of the test should be afforded the opportunity to complete the process by taking the performance exam. They've already invested a significant amount of time and money to get this far.

Persons who had taken and passed the SC:L written test should be permitted to complete the entire test, because that was what was offered. After that, sunset the test and develop a new one

I am a limbo SC:L candidate.
I took the knowledge test on 4/7/16 and passed it.
I would like the opportunity to complete the process I've spent 5 years of my professional career preparing for.
I also believe that the deaf community deserves interpreters who are not only nationally certified but also legally certified. We aren't talking about a college class, or an urgent care appointment, or an employee meeting here. All of those are important to the community and to the certified interpreters that service them. However, in the legal realm there is a lot at stake and there is NO wiggle room for error. Interpreting errors land people in jail or let them walk when they are guilty. Interpreting errors put people on death row or let them go when they should be on death row. Our deaf community deserves legally certified interpreters for their legal interactions in the courtrooms across this country.
I am willing to accept the responsibility, risk, and liability that comes with interpreting in this field and specifically in the court room. I do not care how old the test is. It is a BASIC COMPETENCY TEST. Period. No test will EVER cover what we, interpreters, come across in the field. The deaf community, attorneys, judges, clerks, and the general population are OWED qualified interpreters who are skilled and specialize in legal interpreting.
Hey RID! This isn't a game to us. It shouldn't be a game to you either.

I was 2 weeks away from being in limbo just like this group of motivated interpreters. I made it by a hair. I feel for you guys, I really do! It is comparable to a university phasing out your major when you only have 2 semesters left. Yeah... No. An alternative option must be considered for this group. We need them!

RID Member #26143. I am a limbo SC:L candidate. I have completed the knowledge portion and would hope that o would have the opportunity to complete the performance portion. I understand if some members feel it is out dated but I can't see how you can rightfully end this test with first having a replacement in place.

I firmly believe that RID has an obligation to allow all candidates already in the process of testing for the SC: L when the moratorium was announced, be allowed to take the performance test.

Those of us who have passed the SC:L Written exam should be allowed to finish our 5-year period of taking (and retaking if necessary) the SC:L Performance portion, as was contractually agreed to us when we paid for, took, and passed the written test.
