School Counselors also need time to prepare for the next day's work. Between meeting with students/parents, team meetings, and other obligations, it's diffult to have quality time to prepare for quality counseling programming and services.

The idea that LESS preparation time will benefit students is backwards. Maybe we can increase revenue in the theater community by having more performances and less rehearsal. Quantity (seat time) cannot replace quality (well prepared experiences).

Everyone knows it takes time to create a good lesson. Extra time in class will have no meaning if there is no meat to the lesson.

By following through on these actions MPS is once again showing their disregard for teachers who work overtime and weekends throughout the year. It is further insulting to be expected to take coursework during the summer that is now required during our time off. I know a number of teachers at our school who are going elsewhere.

Everyone needs balance in their lives and good role models who do have balance to follow. Teachers should be those role models, however when time to actually reflect and plan what we need to do keeps being eaten away, it becomes impossible.

While the educational leadership of this country laments the 'deterioration' of education we watch others make strides. Half day preparation/collaboration is the key, not less time to plan and evaluate.

Decisions on how teacher and classroom time will be used should not be made with out consulting those that will implement the change. Too many unintended results will occur.

MPS has never started TWO weeks before Labor Day! MN summers are hottest in August. No air conditioning and 30+ students does not make for better learning.

Also take a look at what happens to prep and meeting time when teachers work multiple grades. All too often, they have to attend all the grade level commitments of all the grades with which they work.

In the current climate, paperwork and data entry holds more weight than the quality of our face-to-face interactions with students. The volume of data/paperwork takes time away from preparation, and thus reduces meaningful interactions and service. It makes me feel less professional.

The value of teachers as professionals as well as classroom assistants who fill a variety of roles and functions are also integral to being able to deliver thoughtfully planned lessons to spark students minds and hearts in response to learning environments and content....

students are bragging that its an extra study hall for the upper classmen and I certainly don't see any extra new exciting additional classes added. Now we have taken away an extra period of health and gym what will they be replaced with?
