Permits allow for active use only, so overnight or any activity that is considered not active use can be ticketed. A permit fee does not seem reasonable if this whole issue is over public “safety”. It seems like extortion. It’s only a safety concern unless you pay the city, then it’s fine. People who work with large equipment/tools or have active lifestyles and large families should be able to have vehicles that fit their needs. It’s a necessity to have freedom of choice, even if your choice is to own a vehicle that is a few feet higher than the average vehicle.

Soccer Goals? Last i checked, soccer goalies are the least healthy of all the players.

The ordinance has changed since this petition went online. Now contrators and people that need their van or truck for commercial business can get a cheap permit that allows them to park and do business. Also their are free visitor permits if you need to park temporarily when you visit santa barbara. Side note: where is the outrage about Goleta and Ventura who already have oversized vehicle restrictions with the exact same dimensions?

Roger you are in luck.. the ordinance was recently changed to allow permits for contractors.

This is almost unbelievable. Really pathetic, over the top domination, and elitist. I'm in Ventura, getting ready to buy a sweet sprinter, and if this actually goes into affect, I will NEVER again patronize any business in your county until it is repealed. I'm disgusted.

Just change the second 'or' on the signs to 'and' and the problem is solved! City could place a sticker on the existing signs to save us money.

Crazy proposition!

It just occurred to me, a Ford F250 would be considered 'oversized' too, 266″ L x 80″ W x 82″ H. So this is more than a van-ban, trucks will also be forbidden on the streets in Santa Barbara now too!

The city of Santa Barbara seems to be averse to all vehicles but this is undoubtedly one of the most ill-conceived ordinances yet. From the family van/grocery getter to small business this negatively impacts the people in our community. We need to take a stand and make sure the city knows there is more to a community than the city councils altruistic vision. We need to be reasonable, rational and practical.

The Oversize Vehicle Ordinance seems to be about as well thought out as the A.U.D. program... well intended, but adversely impacts local residents.

Again short sighted idiots think this is a good idea. I guess all work vans can't do their job cause they won't have any where to park.

We are all responsible taxpaying citizens whom are pillars of our community. As a community we want to work with our city staff on a resolution that is not detrimental to small business and those who have these vehicles for personal and nonprofit organization use. We all participate with schools, churches, after school sport programs, coaching, surfing, biking, kayaking as well as junior life guarding programs and trips for completion abroad that we use our vehicle s for. Most of these vehicles are 5 passenger crew and 11 people passenger vans. If we are forced to have to sell our vehicle this would create an undo financial hardship on all of us. Is the city going to cover our finical losses?

You are essentially telling people what vehicles they can buy or not buy. For being a "forward thinking" city, this is pretty backwards.

This affects my company and co-workers in a negative way.
