Our Co-op is both diverse and harmonious, we maintain a high standard of living and reasonable maintenance costs. Our board does a fine job and does not need the intrusion of government oversight.

I was personally vetted through the existing board-approval process of my White Plains building. I definitely want to see MY future shareholders/neighbors participate in the same rigorous process without a hovering time constraint. I worked hard for many years to present a solid down payment, excellent credit, outstanding references, a well-behaved pooch and a promising in-person interview. Since there are laws in place to ensure a denied applicant is given a reason for the denial, it appears this "Fairness in Cooperative Ownership" law under consideration is simply intended to speed up the sales process and financially benefit the realtors. Please do not vote this law into existence.

Please save us - I'm a retired person on Social Security - and can't afford to be driven out by BAD new un-vetted owners OR the rising cost of maintenance which will be caused by this legislation. Our Board does a wonderful job of protecting us - please help me and them - and NOT "Big Realty" - thank you!!!

This is not a matter of discrimination we live in a mixed ethic group already yet being a co operative resident i do feel as though we should have some guidelines as to approvals for example would you allow someone to move into your house that will be detrimental to your property and have no say in the matter. This law would take it out of the hands of the people who are invested in this and it is not a fair . The realtors want to sell yet would they live here if this was the law or is it for their gains only.

People on the boards of co-ops are not paid to do so and usually have full time jobs. Placing a time restriction is unrealistic!

I doubt that politicians have any appreciation for what co-op Boards and their responsibilities. There doesn't seem to be any reason for this sudden interest except to be self serving.

I’m a retired NY realtor & I currently serve as VP of my co-op Board, so I know both sides of the issue. What will help resolve this is if brokerages spend time contacting co-op Boards every year & ask them for guidelines on what criteria is necessary for approval. Keep the list posted in the broker’s office & share with other brokers.

Korean Vet. Prior NYPD. Down sized due to limited income. I will leave NY if you destroy my coop investment. Giving a break to people that can’t pay their share of coop will make my expenses more to live in NY. Away We go and county becomes Shit

The realtors are pushing this because they want their commissions sooner, rather than later. They don't live in the co-ops they're trying to get clients (often unsuitable) into. But they are more organized and vocal than shareholders are and that puts we shareholders at a disadvantage.
