To Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Members of the California State Senate and State Assembly:
We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the effect of your proposed budget on children. This proposed budget makes devastating cuts to schools, in the amount of $2.5 billion over the next two years, despite the hollow pledge to protect education. The cuts also decimate children’s healthcare and family services.
In the past two years, the state of California has cut $17 billion from schools, and made deep cuts to social services which have added to the burden borne by the children and families most in need of help. Our children have already suffered increased class size, and lost summer school programs, home to school transportation, teachers, administrators, counselors, librarians, nurses and so much more. If this proposal goes through, our children stand to lose even more: music programs, high school sports & activities, more teachers, administrators and support staff.
We fundamentally reject this budget proposal and ask that you immediately rescind ALL proposed budget cuts with respect to any educational service or school program. We also urge you to support legislation to lower the threshold for passage of both the California state budget and revenue measures in the California Legislature, as well as local school parcel taxes, from the current two-thirds to a 55 percent vote or a simple majority.
If these proposed cuts are ratified, an entire generation of children will be hurt by this mistake. Our future hangs in the balance. Please do not let our children down.
Signed,
Concerned Parents and Citizens Everywhere

I just looked at the counter and it hit ten thousand which is honestly surreal because when I started this I thought maybe my friends would sign and that would be it. My keyboard is basically vibrating with how fast I am typing this but I am just so floored by how many people actually care about these kids and their schools.

I just saw we hit one hundred signatures and honestly it feels like a fever dream because I started this just hoping a few neighbors might notice. My brain is honestly spinning a little bit thinking about how many people actually care about these school cuts even when it feels like nobody in Sacramento is listening to a word we say.

I noticed we are creeping up on that first hundred mark and honestly if everyone here just sent the link to a handful of people we would blast right through it (which is good because the politicians love to ignore small groups). It feels like things are moving but I just want to keep the momentum high before the board looks at the drafts again.

Ridiculous. Stop taking away from the schools and find the money somewhere else for once.
My son already has 35 kids in his class. How is he supposed to learn anything with these cuts???
What about the arts? Music is the only reason my daughter even wants to go to school anymore. Leave it alone.
The state is broke because they spend money on junk. Leave the kids out of the budget mess.
This is just sad. We are failing our future generations and they dont even care.
Teachers work hard! It is a thankless job, and this makes it worse. Sickening!
This dumb what the governor is doing the children good education
