Say No to Apartments at WaterCrest Landing

I oppose the construction of these apartments.

I have been a resident of Lenexa for over 30 years. As the vision plan for 2040 points out "the style of home prevalent in Lenexa is not conducive to aging in place" (pg 56). As I and my husband have begun to age we, like many, have looked to home ownership with maintenance provided. We were impressed by the comprehensive plan of the for Lenexa (updated 12/16). We saw a plan where Watercrest Landing is located to be a Low Density Residential/Suburban Density Residential of single family homes. As per the updated 2016 plan we were aware of the land east of K-7 (now west of Woodsonia) to be slatted for office/research/development centers. When Watercrest Landing materialized we found and purchased a home that fit our needs as we began to look into our retirement years. It was disturbing and disheartening to us to receive a letter from Mickey Vena, Watercrest South, LLC dated 6/12/2020 with an enclosed master plan showing a 717 unit apartment complex, Copper Creek Apartments located west of Woodsonia, east of K-7 and south of 89th street. Assuming two people reside per unit at Copper Creek Apartments this is 1434 people in an area shown to be for office/research/development complex per the Lenexa Comprehensive Plan. Copper Creek Apartments do not fit the low density/suburban density single family homes we saw in the Lenexa Comprehensive Plan (12/16). I am writing to voice my opposition to the development of the proposed Copper Creek apartments.

We moved to this neighborhood because of the green space and the low density of housing. We were NEVER informed that apartments and townhomes were going to be built next door. Had we known, we would not have chosen this location. We are strongly opposed to the proposed construction of these apartments.

Strongly oppose rezoning for apartments. We bought here to avoid congestion.

We just moved here specifically for the privacy, remote feel, low traffic...this is WRONG to do to us. Just wrong!

We moved here for the quietness and low traffic and the amenities that were promised.

I live on 89th street in this neighborhood and oppose the apartments.

I was completely thrown off guard when I received news of an enormous apartment complex being built less than a mile away from my new home. My Husband and I felt like we did our homework and asked the right questions about plans for the surrounding land. Never ONCE was it mentioned that our neighborhood was to be part of a "Master Planned Community" with an incredible increase in traffic flow right outside my front yard on 89th Street. I too feel deceived and scammed. We purchased here after much deliberation for the peaceful environment and lovely outdoor setting with trees and a small lake. I also have several concerns including a decrease in my property value and increased safety concerns. Please, does Lenexa have to turn every plot of available land into an apartment complex? When does it stop? I am so very opposed to this.

This is very concerning for the value of our neighborhood and the increased traffic that apartments will add.

I am incredibly disappointed and quite frankly pissed off about the proposed plans for a busy apartment complex within our neighborhood. We purchased this home for the quiet neighborhood, country-like feel, and surrounding residential single-family home communities. Putting over 700 apartments with entrances 200 feet from my driveway will greatly diminish our property value, increase traffic and congestion in the area, and create safety concerns. Many of us feel scammed and deceived from what we were presented with when we bought our homes here. I cannot say how much I oppose this.

I am totally against any idea of a multi-family apartment complex just down the street from our new home and subdivision. Especially with access to it through our streets.

I do not support the scale of this project. 4 story apartment buildings are not ideal for this area. There are plenty of attractive 2 story developments under construction, so saying they are not economically feasible is not a valid excuse. I understand the need for more affordable housing, but it should be a suitable transition from the neighboring properties. Put a 4 story apartment building near new city center, where it won't stand out as much.

This would be a huge disservice to our community. Disappointing that Lenexa would even consider a complex of this size in this area.

Let’s keep Lenexa a wonderful place to live with lots of green space and natural habitat to enjoy. Living out on the far west side, I love my wooded lot and the area wildlife. I love to hike around Lake Lenexa as well.

Do we really need this number of apartments in this area? NO

Enough destruction of habitat. Enough apartments and townhouses for rent being built. No more

Not going to hurt anyone, if you don’t want them to build, you should of purchased the land.
