Say NO to the 90km/h speed limit imposed for light vehicles on the South Eastern freeway. This follows an incident on the 19th of August when a truck lost its brakes colliding with 2 cars at the toll gate killing 2 people. The government has now imposed a 90km/h (10km/h reduction) speed limit for light vehicles. They claim it is to reduce the speed difference between heavy vehicles (limited to 60km/h) and light vehicles however this is a knee jerk reaction with no evidence that speed limit reduction will reduce brake failure or fatalities.

The government need to look properly at this situation and realise that lowering the speed limit will not solve anything!

I have been reviewing the feedback from many of you regarding the recent speed limit reduction on the South Eastern freeway. It is clear that the consensus remains firm that this measure fails to address the underlying safety concerns at the toll gate. I am currently preparing a formal letter to present these arguments to the relevant transportation authorities.

The momentum behind this petition highlights a significant public frustration with the recent speed limit changes. It is clear that many road users believe the government must reconsider this policy in favor of more effective safety solutions.

if the trucks cant stop they need to be banned from that lane. stop punishing normal drivers for things we didn't do.

its just a revenue grab pure and simple. the trucks are the problem not my daily commute.

ridiculous. fix the truck brakes or put in an arrester bed. slowing us down does nothing but waste my time.

Dropping the speed limit will not stop a runaway truck
