Dear Legislators,

Please say no to SB 668 and SB 669 by Senator Crowe.

Every student in Louisiana deserves the highest caliber of education that we can give them. When they graduate, they should be equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive in the 21st century and be able to compete with not only other students in Louisiana, but other students from across the country and world.

Louisiana made the decision to adopt the Common Core State Standards because they represent a high bar for learning and preparedness for college and careers. The Common Core aligned assessment proposed for Louisiana, the PARCC, will help educators, families, and students determine how much progress our students have made towards reaching this bar and how they are doing as compared to their peers across our country.

Our teachers and students have been preparing for these standards and for the PARCC for years now. They have made huge investments in technology, professional development, curricular materials, etc. To turn back now would cause a lot of unnecessary uncertainty and chaos for all.

As charter school leaders, educators, and supporters, we stand united in our support for Common Core and PARCC. Please do not jeopardize the incredible progress we've made and our students' futures-- Please say NO to SB 668 and SB 669!

Changing Common Core standards now would cause chaos in my three schools. It would also be very costly as we have already begun to purchase materials for the next year

As principal of an open-enrollment, public high school in New Orleans, I cannot stress how important CCSS is to setting high standards and quality learning experiences for our students. The Common Core provides the focus on important skills across the curriculum that lead to post- secondary success. Please support the state transition to CCSS.

It will be a big step backwards for our students if these bills pass. Vote no so that Louisiana students will have a chance at an academically rigorous education.

Let us all believe in our students' amazing potential and our local public education leaders' talent, ability and judgement. Derailing Common Core Standards and PARCC sends entirely the wrong message to Louisiana families who want the best for their children.

Opting out of standards that allow Louisiana to be compared to other states is not the solution to Louisiana's education problem and lowering the bar does not help students or parents achieve more in schools. Do not send the message that Louisiana students are incapable of achieving what students can do in other states and do not opt out of Common Core and PARCC.
