Say No to Wetherspoons in St Martins Walk

This is a cynical attempt by Wetherspoons to take advantage of the new Football Club, its fans and customers of its facilities, at the expense of the existing local traders of Dorking and local residents . There cannot be the demand for such a large “pub” operation in a small town the size of Dorking. The vacant Surrey Yeomen pub premises would be the ideal situation, as far as Dorking is concerned, if Wetherspoons were to move into the area, which I hope that it does not.

This development is not required. There are enough cafes and restaurants in Dorking and 4 local much appreciated businesses would be lost.

A Wetherspoons would get people into the town early. Was in four central Dorking shops this morning - before 11am - and I was the only customer in all of them!

We need shops in Dorking and not pubs, this is a ridiculous idea!

We do not need another pub in Dorking. There is an empty one as it is. We have quite enough pubs. it is a totally unsuitable location for any type of pub anyway. Elderly residents housing and small local business would certainly be adversely affected..

Unsuitable location and premise for such an establishment

A most unsuitable location for such a premise

The other pubs were badly managed - and there's now hardly a decent pub in Dorking. A Wetherspoons will be a great addition to the town.

The very modest target for this petition wasn't achieved. Wetherspoons are just another pub, just more successful than most - and will be a welcome addition to the town, increasing footfall from early morning.

It will destroy existing trade in the town. 3 pubs in town have already closed, so pointless. Being so close to new football ground, area of existing disorder may add to local crime, with no proactive Police patrols, nothing to deter this.

Not appropriate for the area, we have lost many of the local public houses already. Is in the wrong place in the wrong town.

If this goes ahead that area at the back of St Martins Walk will become a no go area in the town which is completely unacceptable

Will cause nuisance and disturbance to local residents and small businesses

We already have one empty pub in the town

Not against Wetherspoons, just proposed location. Would prefer to see it on the High Street.

Dorking is losing too many retail shops and this propsal will add to the problems with antisocial behaviour in residential areas

Not against Wetherspoons only location forcing other businesses to go elsewhere
